Default Looking for dive tips around Rio de Janeiro - 01-27-2010, 01:03 PM

Hi,

I'm going to Rio soon. I've checked some web sites for diving in the area and many require that you bring your own partner. I'm going solo. Can anyone recommend a good dive company in Rio de Janeiro that can help me out?

Thanks.

Default Rio Diving - 01-27-2010, 04:16 PM

I have been to Rio many times(wife is from there). Never have actually gone diving in Rio as never seem to have time. But have gone diving in Buzios and on Ilha Grande(2 hour drive south of Rio and offshore). There is a dive shop around the corner from sister in laws house that I went in once.

If I can be of further help Pm me.

Hi again. I went diving yesterday at Arraial do Cabo. A tour group let me join them from their hotel in Rio. It was only a 30 foot dive but there was a lot of wild life and some corral. I also met some people that may be able to help find good locations. It was a fun time. The land based facilities left a lot to be desired - no place to rinse gear or wash. However there was the ever present guy with the styrofoam cooler filled with beer waiting on the dock. Ok, plus points for ice cold beer on a hot day.

Yes, the area around Angra Dos Reis (Ilha Grande) was the place to go (as stated by all of the local divers on the boat). I've been snorkeling there before; next time I'll try to find a diving opportunity.

Back in 2005, I spent 2 weeks in Angra Dos Reis (my brothers wife is from there). Great water...

One of the best dives I've ever done, was a night dive there with an average depth of about 20 feet.

(There are no sharks down there (to cold?). Tis why I did the night dive. I don't like sharks, they are going to eat me!)

You keep mentioning this. A little information-gathering could go a long way, and greatly enhance your dive experiences. Just sayin'...
