I was there on Sunday:
Viz was about 6 feet, about 1 foot in the deep hole. with a light.
Temp was 75 at the surface, 71 most places we were and 66 in the deep hole

That sounds positive. Most likely going to try out Mammoth this weekend if family permits. Was at BL yesterday, vis was a good 30', computer said 78f at depth (34') - just in case anybody was wondering.

34' depth? You found a hole or the water is really up.

We are still learning on the viz issues. We flocked Thursday. On Friday there was no wind all day and we almost had 10' already. It took a turn for the worse Sat and by Sun it was <5'. We took samples yesterday to see if maybe an algae bloom occurred.

We have to do better. We thought we had a good system in place.

On another front, the Mammoth Properties owners will be meeting tonight. If anyone has any thoughts about how to improve our lake, pm me please!

Raise the PH and ionize the water. High PH inhibits algae growth (note the 25 foot viz reports of Blue Lagoon) and the ions bond to particulates and drop out. Probably what your flocculant is supposed to be doing, though.

Just a thought, are there any constructions sites or dirt fields nearby where the wind could be carrying dust into the lake?

Wonder if zebra mussels would do any good.

Raising the pH level would most likely kill the fish. The aquatic life was one of the more exciting things about diving Mammoth. Yes, better visibility would greatly improve the overall dive experience, but otherwise Mammoth Lake/ Hydrosports is doing a great job. Besides, I need to work on my navigation skills anyway!

A slight raise in the ph (4.5 - 6) wouldn't hurt the wildlife too bad. There are even some fish (darters) in BL when we were there last. The algae bloom leads to bacteria/earaches, etc. Lake jackson is an oilfield town and has access I'm sure to acid trucks (aka Halliburton, etc.) Just wondering if that would help. However the expense may be out of the ball park. Sounds like a tough one.
