2010's in full swing and CHUMmers are starting to jet off to the far corners of the globe with their dive gear and cameras. Let's make this a banner year for the CHUM Gallery.

On a couple of CHUM trips this year, we're going to have a mini photo contest. (No, not for small pictures... it's just not our annual Calendar Competition.) We'll announce which ones as the dates get close.

How does it work? Easy.
Step 1 - Take photos on the trip.
Step 2 - Upload them to the Gallery. We'll have a section set up for each of these trips. We'll announce a deadline for uploading for the contest, usually a week or two after the end of the trip.
Step 3 - Send me the link for two of the pictures you uploaded that you'd like to submit to the mini contest for that trip.

Once the deadline arrives, we'll take the pictures that were submitted, and let the general membership vote in a poll to select their favorite.

The winning photo in that poll will be a "bonus entry" in the Calendar Competition later in the year.


"Wait a second Sushi Boy", you say. "How do I get my pictures in the calendar if I can't make it on one of the CHUM trips?"

Any Tiger Shark can upload any of their photos in the Gallery and submit them to the big Calendar Competition in the fall.

Go on a trip, upload your pics to the CHUM Gallery, then watch for the Calendar Competition announcement in the fall. Tiger Sharks can enter three of their photos (from any trip, with anyone, to anywhere, posted in the Gallery after Nov 9th 2009) in the competition. Mini Photo Contest winners get a bonus entry.

Don't look for a "last call for Calendar Competition Entries" announcement or post. There won't be one. If you go on a trip, get those pictures posted so they'll be eligible.

It's almost time to say bon voyage to our first big CHUM excursion of 2010. Those of you going Crazy for Cozumel, pack your cameras because we'll be running a mini photo contest for those on the trip.

Once you get back, upload your pics to the Gallery by 11:00 pm on June 14th. Send me a PM with two photos that you'd like to submit for the competition and we'll let the members vote on their favorite.

The winner gets a bonus entry in the calendar competition later in the year.

Do you have to be a serious photographer to compete? Heck no, even I won a mini photo contest last year! Just have fun, take lots of pics & share them with us when you get back.

It doesn't matter how you take the pictures, as long as they're uploaded in the trip gallery by the deadline. Show us what you get!

Just an fyi, you do have to be a Tiger Shark to upload pics to the gallery, but that's just one of many benefits of membership.

There have been lots of great photos uploaded into the Gallery this year.

July sounds like it’s going to be a busy travel month for quite a few CHUMmers, so we’ve decided to run a “wild card” mini photo contest for July. Upload your pics from any trip to anywhere into the CHUM Gallery between July 1st and July 31st (see here for instructions on creating your member album if you don’t already have one). Then send me a PM with the url’s for two of the photos that you’d like to submit for the competition and we’ll let the club vote for their favorite in early August.

The winner gets a bonus entry in the calendar competition later in the year.

It's July, so the wild card photo competition is officially underway! Dust off that camera & go take some pics!

I accidentally loaded a picture that was too many pixels. How can I delete it?

When you're viewing the picture, to the far right should be an "image tools" button. (You may need to scroll over to the far side of the picture.)

Clicking on that will open up a drop-down menu, and the bottom selection should be "delete image". I think it asks you to reconfirm that you do indeed want to delete it by having you check a box & then click delete.

Try that and let me know how it works.

July is winding down, and so is our mini photo contest.

We have some good entries so far, but there's always room for more! To encourage more submissions, we're upping the ante! If we get 10 photographers submitting pics to the contest, the top two photogs will get a bonus entry into the calendar competition later this year. If we get 15 people submitting pics, the top three photographers will get a bonus entry. (Note: no individual photographer can earn more than one bonus entry from this contest). So, the more the merrier. Get your pics submitted and encourage your friends to do the same!

Also, we know some of y'all just got back recently and are still trying to re-assimilate. With that in mind, we're extending the deadline to get your pics uploaded & submitted to Monday evening at 11:00 pm. That gives you the whole weekend to work on it! (And remember, if you're still stuck for time, you don't have to upload all of your pics right away. Just put up the two that you want to submit to the contest & deal with the rest later.)

Once you've uploaded, send me a PM with the link to the two that you want to submit to the contest.

One more sidenote. If for some reason you experience problems uploading your pictures, please send me a PM. We'll find some way to get them in the Gallery so they'll be eligible.
