Question Netbook wanted - 07-14-2010, 10:11 AM

I'm looking to get a mini laptop or netbook for ease in carrying on trips. I would use it for internet/email access and temporary storage of pics and video. I want 10" screen, wifi, and decent hard drive storage. Anybody have one and can offer advice or recommendations?

There's one on Ebay for $248 that looks interesting. Dell Mini 1012 10 Black Netbook, 160GB, XP, 1GB, Wi-Fi.

If you have one to show off, bring it to the meeting tomorrow night.

I have an HP netbook I can bring for you to look at. I bought it thru CDW Discount Warehouse thru employee purchase plan. I think I paid around 300 for it new.

I havent worried about pictures since I dont own a camera. Use it on trips when free wireless is available in a hotel but not a public computer.

Have you considered an IPad?

Not in the budget, unfortunately.

If the operating system is XP, then 1 gb should be enough to get you by and run the programs you will use with a bit of speed. Otherwise, I think you need more...

I was asked, "How deep do you dive?" the other day. I answered, "Deep enough to get wet."

Yeah that was nice and I'm somewhat undecided over the extra small size and weight of a netbook versus the extra power and capacity of a standard laptop.

I was in Fry's last night and didn't see any laptop like yours under $350 though. There was a Lenovo (IBM) for $449 that seemed the best value for laptops. I bought a Flip video like Junior's so I'll be in the same boat on trips with having to download 8gb of video every other day.

I may just pick up a used netbook on Ebay for $150 to $200 that could tide me over for a year then pass that along to the kids.

Default Netbook - 07-15-2010, 10:23 AM

I looked at what I paid. Was about 360 new but has been at least a year or more. It has 120 hard drive. Its an HP. I am not a Toshiba fan. Too many bad experiences at work when I came to work here five years ago. Two crashed hard drives. We dont buy Toshibas any more. Too much abuse in the oilfield.
