Arrow CHUM's TV Guide - 08-08-2005, 02:33 PM

It seems that every time we get together, somebody's mentioning a show they recently saw on tv. Some I've been fortunate enough to catch, others I wish I'd been able to see or tape.

With all of the channels out there, there are shows that are of interest to divers on at least a couple of times a week.

If you know of something coming up that's something CHUMmers would be interested in, here's a thread to let us know.

If you want to discuss a specific show in detail, please start a separate thread for that, so this one doesn't get off track.

Thanks for your help!

SB

Here's something that looks interesting this Thursday on the Discover Channel:

Pearl Harbor: Death of the Arizona

includes footage from a National Park Service dive team exploring the wreck.

A couple of things of interest this week:

Discovery Channel
Wed 8/24 at 8:00 & 11:00 pm
Mythbusters
Can an unsuspecting scuba diver be sucked out of the water by a fire fighting helicopter and end up in the middle of a forest fire?

History Channel
Thursday 8/25 at 7:00 pm
Ship of Gold
In 1857, en route to New York from California, the steamship Central America vanished in a killer storm off North Carolina's coast, taking with her 400 passengers and nearly 21 tons of gold bullion. Here is the story of the worst US peacetime sea disaster, and how high-tech treasure hunters recovered her fortune over 130 years later.

And, it looks like next Sunday, the Discovery Channel is starting some sort of pirate theme
8:00 & 11:00 pm - The Quest for Captain Kidd
9:00 pm - Sunken Treasure Bling
10:00 pm - Real Pirate of the Caribbean: Captain Henry Morgan
Aarrrrr!!!!

Thumbs up Cousteau tonight - 04-12-2006, 12:51 PM

Channel 8 - 7:00 to 8:00 pm
Jean Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures

I caught the tail end of last week's show and it was pretty good. It should be worth watching tonight.

This Wednesday on CBS (Ch 11) at 7:00 pm, they've got a show called "Shark, Mind of a Demon with Fabien Cousteau".

I don't know who Fabien Cousteau is, but it should be an interesting show.

Then at 8:00, flip over to the Travel Channel for the World Series of Poker. You might catch a glimpse of me & my dad sitting in the audience. Not exactly my 15 seconds of fame, but it's the best I can do right now.

I do not have cable, but I have a high def. antena. On PBS last night there was a great show where divers went to Antarctica do dive under the ice. The high def video they got was great. Even if you see it on a regular TV it would be good stuff.

Filmmaker Norbert Wu and his team make the 2,400-mile journey from Christchurch, New Zealand, to McMurdo Station, Antarctica, to make the first high-definition film of life hidden under the Antarctic ice.

Did you belt out a hearty "Aaarrrr!" at each winning hand?

Thumbs up Shark Week - July 30th to Aug 4th - 07-27-2006, 10:35 AM

Discovery Channel's Shark Week is back starting on Sunday.

Here's the schedule

Looks like they have their usual fare of a few good shows and a bunch of sensationalistic ones.

They've got some shark-related content on their website too, but I haven't had a chance to dig into it yet.
