We're five weeks away and it's time to get organized for the CHUM Xmas party!
This year the club will be 20 years young and the date for the event is the actual anniversary of the club's founding = December 7th, "a date which will live in infamy".
The venue is our favorite monthly haunt at Jake's Sports Bar at 2944 Chimney Rock Road, Houston, TX 77056 on Saturday Dec 7th from 2pm to 5pm. That's right; it's an afternoon event which means no hard stop on a school-night.
The format comprises:
Drinks:
The club will provide two drinks for each Tiger Sharks and we'll hand out vouchers on arrival; these can be exchanged at the bar. Non-Tiger Sharks can start a tab at the bar in the usual manner. Everyone is welcome, so let us know if you are bringing friends/family so we can plan accordingly.
Food:
Since we have a different venue and time-slot this year, there is no Pot Luck for food. We are arranging catering at Jake's. There will be a table of appetizers & sides (provided by Jake's), and folks can select one main from the menu (see below, provided by Jake's). We'll tweak the details once the numbers are clear. Please provide a preferred selection (e.g. tacos, wings, quesadillas, burger) in your response on this thread and we'll collate this on post #3.
Desserts are covered with a cake, also provided by the club.
Following that we'll get into the White Elephant / Shark gift exchange.
This is always great fun with some interesting gifts and managed stealing.
- Please keep gifts under $30.
- Wrap the gifts so that the contents are protected, and not clear/obvious.
- No alcohol. Gift cards (e.g. Specs or Total Wines) can be used.
- Typical selections can include dive accessories, gag gifts and novelties, and general items that can be re-stolen!
Major awards & announcements
At the party each year we announce the winners of Diver of the Year and Photographer of the Year.
Diver of the Year nominations are here.
Photographer of the Year is determined by the calendar contest.
Let's get those votes in!
Typically we will hear from each of our candidates for CHUM officer positions.
This time around, we'll be hearing from the candidates for President, Secretary and Social Media Director.
Please get those nominations submitted - see this 2025 BOD Nominations link for details.
