Hi, I just moved to Houston for the summer from CA and I'm glad I was able to make it to your club meeting last night. You all seem like a great group of people and I hope to get out diving with you sometime! A little bit about myself: I'm a PhD student studying geology at UC Santa Barbara, I've been SCUBA certified since 2003 and have about 150 logged dives (50 within the last year), and I have PADI AOW and AAUS Research Diver certification. Most of my diving has been at the CA, and I'm an active volunteer diver for Reef Check. I'm looking forward to checking out some new dive sites around Houston on my days off, let me know if you want to go diving!

New Diver and CHUM-er

Hello!

I'm a new diver and CHUM member in Houston.

I completed my PADI OW certification late last month, just in time for a Grand Cayman vacation I scheduled at the last minute. We completed our open water dives at Blue Lagoon, which was a very pleasant experience. Although, I could have used a warning about the road out there. I understand it's been improved, so I can't imagine what type of vehicle was required to make it out there before!

Grand Cayman was an amazing experience where I got to cut my scuba and underwater photography teeth. My fiance and I completed a couple of boat dives and some shore dives with DiveTech. I've been told that I spoiled myself and won't want to dive anywhere else again, but I decided that I'd give it a go anyway. I recently purchased all the necessary gear (sans tank) and I'm learning about all the places in Texas to dive.

I'm looking forward to making it out to Mammoth and 288 Lake as they are relatively close by and look to provide some interesting dives. I'll definitely make a trip back to Blue Lagoon again. As I get some more experience, I plan to make it out to the Texas Clipper. My father worked on that boat as a young adult and I think it would be interesting to bring him photos back of the ship as a reef.

While my fiance has been certified for years, she's more of what I'll call a "vacation diver". I've been bit by the bug. I have a penchant for hobbies that require lots of expensive technical gear. I get my other kicks rockclimbing (mostly indoor, but some outdoor).

I stay pretty busy with work, but I'll be watching the forums looking for folks making it out to the local Houston places on weekends I'm in town. Hopefully they won't mind a relatively newb looking for someone to dive with.

Welcome to CHUM! You've found a great group of folks.

I've been diving for a while and started teaching scuba when I was living in Denver in 2003. Since scuba can't be my real job, I am in the printing industry.

Hope to dive with you soon!

Cheers,

Dan

I'm a new member. I dive regularly from my 28 Whaler Conquest and Spear. I'm always looking for good divers and boater who like to go and handle the project safely and spear some fish. What forum is good for that on this site?

Welcome to the club. The best place to post is on the Dive Buddy board and if you have a boat I'm sure you will find plenty of divers/spearos here who will be glad to go out with you.

Hello everyone! I've been interested in diving since I was a kid, but always put off lessons for one reason or another. Well, I finally signed up for class (Next week) and am very excited about it. I'm already looking at how to stay involved after the class/certification so while doing research on the web, I found CHUM. Since I live in the Woodlands, it is real nice to see such an active, local club.

I look forward to getting involved on the board and perhaps meetings! =)

Snarfal ~ Welcome to CHUM. Hope your class is everything you hope it to be.
As another in The Woodlands... the drive down to meetings is worth it.
Hope to see you soon.

You are welcome to come out and visit even before you complete you OW cert.
There is almost always a group of CHUMmers diving somewhere.
