Good news; I can dive :):):).

This amazing doctor in Florida CALLED ME on Saturday and we spent about 20 minutes on the phone. As the other docs said, he had no real explanation for what happened in Cayman - he said it was just a bad day. He likened DCS to a sports injury - he said that any athlete will eventually get an injury and it doesn't necessarily mean s/he did something 'wrong' to get the injury; sometimes it just happens. That day was my day.

We talked about how I could dive 'differently' and honestly, for the way I dive, it's not that much different. It's all about the bubble load so for me, the adjustments I'll make are things like longer safety stops (4-5 minutes at 15-20'), 2-3 dives a day instead of more (I normally don't dive more than 3 times a day anyway), skipping dives or taking a day off (I do that anyway) and longer SITs. The biggest change he suggested was diving Nitrox on air settings. Diving Nitrox on air settings allows for a greater safety margin but I'll have to keep a watchful eye on my depth so I don't go too deep. Normally not a problem anyway. He also mentioned staying hydrated so I'll be sure to drink extra water throughout but really, nothing else.

He said that for some divers, this prescription is unbearable but for me, it's literally minor adjustments. I'm the definition of a recreational diver; I'm never going to do something weird or funky underwater - which is partly why this whole thing knocked me for a loop. So, I'll be even a bit more conservative than I already am and hopefully will be able to dive for many more years.

I can't tell you how much it has meant to me to have you guys with me through all this. So appreciated. Love you guys.

XenForo question - how do you like a post over and over and over?

    That's fantastic news!!

Might be worth checking to see if your dive computer has a user-configurable depth alarm. It looks like my Suunto does. Certainly not something you'd want to rely on blindly, but it might give you a needed nudge if you got distracted.

I'm afraid it's bust - well, not really but I've decided that I can't do the Philippines trip. There are other factors but alot of it is the profile - 4 dives a day for days and days and while I don't have to do all of them, I feel like I'd miss alot. If I'm going to miss, I'd rather not see what I'm missing .

But hey, at least I can still go to Blue Lagoon! :D

Great news! The Doc seems to have prescribed my way of diving for the last 5 or so years! I always have my Nitrox setting on 21% for all dives with Nitrox. I like the extra safety factor. This hydration thing might not be so great as it means a bit less alcohol in the evenings after dives but to be able to keep diving, small trade off! When are you coming here to dive?

I'll be there when the water temp is 80. ;) Yes, these are easy adjustments for me to make so I'm a happy Ho.
