Adrienne Correa, coral reef ecologist and educator in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Program in BioSciences at Rice University will be our speaker. Adrienne is a Research Seat Member of the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary's Advisory Council, teaches various courses related to aquatic ecology, coral reefs, and diving, and she is the faculty sponsor of the Rice Oceans Club. Adrienne loves to engage others in the importance, complexity and beauty of coral reefs, particularly in the field or using giant 2-D reef replicas! As part of a grant she produced billboard type photographs of the Flower Gardens Banks which she has used in her classes to teach ocean field work procedures and more in the pool.

Since Hurricane Harvey, Dr. Correa, and her team have been investigating the effects of Hurricane Harvey's runoff on the Flower Gardens Banks' coral.

The meeting officially begins at 7:30 pm with CHUMMers arriving between 6:30 - 7:00 pm to order drinks, food and mingle.
