In the winter does anyone do training in a pool? If so where do you go? Any suggestions?

Yes, one of the dive ops in town I work with has an indoor pool and is used for training every day.

I'm guessing, you were think more along the lines of an LDS. Used to be any LDS with a pool would let you use their pool as long as they didn't have a class going on. I would hope it's still that way. If you have taken classes and/or bought gear from one in town I would give them a call and ask about using the pool to check out your gear and see what they say. They may or may not charge you, or may just charge you for the air you use.

I've also heard, if you went to U of H or Rice you can rent their pool, so you might want to see who you can find who can do that.

Last thought is call your instructor and ask if you can join him/her in the pool the next time they are teaching an open water class. Each instructor will have a personal view point on this, but even if they aren't ok with that they may offer you an alternative option.

Last thing to consider is some pools whether owned by an LDS or university may insist you have a "buddy" and that you can't "dive" solo, so you may need to find someone to join you to keep them happy. No reason you can't use the buddy board for this, just please don't mention the LDS by name.
