I finished this one a week or two ago:

It's not particularly riveting, but it is good brain candy. There's no real story line, it's more of a series of short chapters about different places the author worked as a dive instructor. To me it read kind of like a collection of CHUM trip reports.

It's not one I'm gonna keep on my bookshelf, so if anyone wants it, let me know. I'll have it at the meeting tonight.

If A Pirate I Must Be - $1.99 Kindle version on Amazon

It's the story of Black Bart - "Based on historical records, journals and letters from pirates under Roberts’ command, and on writings by Roberts himself, If a Pirate I Must Be... is the true story of the greatest pirate ever to sail the Caribbean."

    Just finished this:
    Into the Raging Sea
Thirty-Three Mariners, One Megastorm, and the Sinking of El Faro

    By Rachel Slade

The El Faro was a container ship that sunk in the eye of Hurricane Joaquin in October 2015, taking 33 crew with her. The author is scathing on the performance of the captain (for steering into the path of a hurricane), the officers (for not speaking up) and the corporate company men (for overloading the ship and penny pinching like, er, not fitting enclosed lifeboats).
The tone is a little strident at times but its a compelling read mainly because the black box was recovered (from the wreck in 14,000 ft - two chapters on that saga) and so we know every word that was spoken for 26 hours leading up to the ship going under, including literally the captain's last words. So it's a little easier to form an independent opinion since most of the dialogue is repeated verbatim in the book. Overall I think she's a little hard on the junior officers.

For those that want a shorter version, much of the key dialogue is in this article, including a description of the key incident that probably shifted the captain from safety-first to devil-may-care:

If anyone would like to borrow it I can bring it on Thursday.
