Wow, we have some awesome photos submitted for this year's calendar. Too bad 2020 doesn't have an extra few months to include them all.

Please follow the link below to rate all the photos and help us pick the best twelve.
2020 Calendar Voting

Voting is open to Tiger Shark members only, but Nurse sharks are still welcome to go to the Survey and check out the great photos.

Polls close Nov 17th :)

[Voting Instructions ]
Please give each photo a score from 0 (burn it) to 5 (frame it)
The photos with the most points will be included in the calendar

So how does the voting work? You have to vote for every picture or is it your top 12? You can give them all the same rating?

I am also a little confused. I usually scrunch up my nose at change, and this is very different than the way we have done calendar voting in the past.

Am I supposed to choose my 12 favorite photos and give them all a 5 rating? Or am I supposed to rate my favorite photos a 5 and my lesser favorite photos are 4, 3, 2, etc? Am I supposed to rate all the photos, or just 12 photos of my choosing? Can I skip rating photos if I don't want it in the calendar?

I don't mean to make this complicated, but the rating system in the past worked well for getting the most highly ranked photos in the calendar. This new way seems like most of photos in the end will have the same number of votes.

Please advise. I can embrace a new way of voting, I just need a little more help. :p

Sorry for the confusion.

You rate each photo and the ones with higher total ratings will make it into the calendar. Hopefully this makes the voting process faster/easier: just rate how much you like each photo and move on to the next one.

As for how you assign those ratings, if you give them all the same rating, you're cancelling out your own vote. Other than that it's up to you.

Personally, I like the new approach. (And it wasn't my idea.) I think it's much easier and faster to just click a link, click on star ratings, then submit. All from your browser.

Much nicer, in my opinion, than having to download a file, open in excel, drag pictures around a worksheet trying to establish a precise numerical order, then save and upload/email. A star rating is how you rate hotels, restaurants, or pretty much everything else. 5 stars = wowza, 4 stars = pretty damned good, 3 stars = decent, 2 stars = not so much, 1 star = get it out of here. That's mine. Rate them as you go. If it's wowza it's 5 stars, no need to keep going back and forth trying to decide if it's #1 or #2 or #3. We aren't picking the best photo of the year and I don't think we've ever distinguished between the top rated and 12th rated photo.

That said, I'm sure Doug will be happy to hear your feedback!

I don't have a problem with the new system. It's just that it was completely different than all previous years and no explanation of how it worked.

Wow, there were a lot of amazing photos submitted! It was hard not to just give them all 5 stars!
