A week from now we'll be waking up at the Flower Gardens! No reason to watch the forecast quite yet, but the trend is looking good.

For the folks on the CHUM roster, we need to get a CHUM waiver from you please. It's attached below. Please print it, fill it out, and bring it to me at the dock on Friday.

There's a Media Gallery category for the trip here.

Bring those cameras and snap pics. We'll have a photo contest after the trip with the winner getting a bonus entry in this fall's Calendar Contest. Any photo from the trip, underwater or above is eligible. Cell phone photos of the sunsets and the activity on the boat are great too. If we get at least 5 photographers submitting entries for the photo contest, the top 2 photographers will each get a bonus entry.

Anybody else want to go on the FG trip this weekend? Just heard this from the Fling:

"we have a diver who can’t go Memorial Day due to a medial issue that came up. The guy who booked is the dad, the guy who can’t go is his son. The dad is willing to still go himself, so we have one bunk to fill if someone in your group is interested.

If you have a couple that want to go together, the dad will sell both bunks too. He prefers to go and just sell the one. But let us know either way if you have ppl who want to book still and I’ll present it to the guy and let him decide.
"

If you'd like to join us, contact me asap & I'll let you know who you need to talk to.

Well the forecast is looking potentially sporty at the moment. It’s still far enough out that anything could happen, so keep lighting those candles and sacrificing whatever farm animals you have on hand.

For those on the trip, just a reminder that procedures for our Flower Gardens trips have changed this year.

Please BRING CASH for the crew tips at the end of the trip. There is no ATM machine on board and no way to use Venmo or similar services for crew tips at this point.

You're welcome to either give it to me after the dives are over on Sunday and I'll get it to the crew or there will be a basket in the galley after the end of trip briefing where you can deposit it.

If you're unsure about how much to bring, PM me and we can discuss.

If you're unsure about what I just said - BRING CASH!!

I really hope it doesn't get cancelled. Any idea how the forecast compares to last weekend's weather? Because they still went out last weekend.

The pictures and posts I saw make me think they had almost no significant waves (so 1 to 2 feet at most). I usually don't check until Thursday since the forecast changes too much more than a few days out.

As you're packing for your trip, remember to pack both your c-card and your nitrox card.

While technically the new booking procedure captures c-cards up while signing up, sometimes the photos don't upload properly. If the crew can't verify your certification, you may not be able to dive. The Fling recommends that you bring your c-card and nitrox card with you on each trip.

It's also a good idea to bring your DAN or other dive insurance card.

Go ahead and set them out today so you'll remember to pack them for the trip.

Also remember that you need to bring weights with you. The boat may have a few for the folks who fly in, but don't have enough to equip the whole boat. If you're driving down, bring your own weights.

I'm feeling hopeful about the forecast but the final call, of course, is the captain's to make. I'll let you know when we get word.

There's still a chance of a somewhat bumpy ride for the first day or so, which brings to mind another good topic - sea sickness meds.

TAKE THEM!!

Even if you've never been seasick before, it can hit anyone at any time and once it does, it's too late to do anything about it.

I like to take one Friday morning, another one before I get on the boat Fri evening, and a final one Saturday morning. Typically, I'm fine after that. Others like to keep taking them the whole trip.

In the unlikely event that you should start feeling queasy, DON'T STAY INSIDE! Not even in the bathroom and especially not in your bunk. Get outside on the main deck with the trash bag they'll give you. You do not wanna be the person that pukes inside.

Neptune willing, hopefully it won't be an issue, but be prepared by taking your meds.

One new change to the procedures that I just noticed is this: " “Passengers wishing to tip may do so in cash, or Texas Caribbean Charters will let them put it on a credit card (we pay the credit card fees without passing the charges down to the crew) as a courtesy.

The option is there if you need it but keep in mind that somebody is still eating the credit card fees. Cash is king!

Man, truer words have never been spoken - trust me! Unfortunately, it took me a few trips on the Fling and lots of missed dives before I finally snapped to and took them before and during the entire trip. Being seasick is not fun.
