How many steps do we have to take for scuba dives? I am planning to get my scuba certificates.
If you're not yet certified, call a local dive shop and they will go over everything you need to know to get certified, such as what you need to buy, what you will need to do, how long it will take, how much it will cost, etc.
As a rough guide, you can expect to spend about $100-200 for masks, fins, and snorkel unless you already have it or can borrow it. About $500 for basic Open Water class and materials. Course typically consists of two nights of classroom (can be done e-learning), a couple of pool sessions, and two days at the lake for 5 checkout dives. There will be a few tests for the classroom stuff but it's not calculus, the average person can easily learn it. The pool sessions will cover basic skills like mask clearing, hovering, regulator recovery, and other things to deal with issues. Not that difficult if you're in fair shape and comfortable in water. Then the lake is the final test where you demonstrate the pool skills. You can find places that will do it all in one week but I think it's better to do it over two weeks to give things time to soak in.
