Ever wondered what goes into making a dive computer?

Join CHUM as we get a glimpse behind the curtain at a private tour of Cochran Undersea Technology in Richardson, TX.

Company founder Michael Cochran not only started a company that builds some of the world's best dive computers, some even being used by the Navy Seals, he was also co-inventor of the microcomputer while working for Texas Instruments and at the time he left the company, he was the TI's Number 1 patent holder. You can read more about him here. This is a very rare opportunity for us to see first-hand how a dive computer goes from concept to our wrists.

The tour will be at 3:00 pm on Friday June 21st and will be capped at 12 participants.

There's a separate thread for a dive outing (open to everyone) that same weekend at Clear Springs Scuba Park in Terrell TX, about an hour down the road. After the tour, we can make our way to CSSP, camp (or hotel) and dive to our heart's content.

Opportunities like this won't come along very often. Who wants in?

Alrighty! The tour is this Friday :happyeyepatch:. We can still get some more people on the list if you feel like taking Friday off & coming along.

Here are some restaurant recommendations. Don't feel like you have to eat at these, but they are where I'll be and you're more than welcome to join.

Before the tour, Twisted Root Burger Co at 730 E Campbell Rd in Richardson will work well for lunch. It's less than 5 minutes from Cochran. The tour starts at 3:00 pm, so if you'll be lunching with us, please plan on arriving at Twisted Root no later than 2:00 pm so we can enjoy a leisurely meal.

After the tour, I'm planning on heading over to BJ's Brewhouse at 1106 Town East Mall in Mesquite for some food & beverages on the way to CSSP.

CSSP closes at 8:00 pm, so if you're planning on camping, you really need to be on the road from dinner by 7:00 pm.

Also, if anybody's interested in carpooling, you're welcome to leave your car at my apts & ride with me. I'll be coming back late Sunday afternoon. Just shoot me a PM if you're interested.

That looks good to me.

Looking forward to hitting the road again around Texas, see Cochran's technology (my first job was designing avionics & electronics and I now do subsea), driving, diving and generally getting out of Dodge for a long W/E.
Bring it on.

cheers,
McLot :piratewithhat2:

Gotta throw my stuff in the car and then I'm northbound and down. Still room on the tour if you woke up today in the mood for a roadtrip ;)

One small change for those who may be thinking of joining us along the way. Dinner after the tour has been changed to Razoo's at 13949 North Central Expressway so we can meet up with the Scubadillos, a Dallas-area club, for their happy hour.
