5-8' viz

78-79 on the surface

We did test the water from last weekend and the problem was not algae. We are trying a different flock and it was applied today.

Viz is 10' even though it is windy.

Temp is right at 80.

We have the large pavilions (30' X 30' & 20' X 30') completed on the north side and the entry docks for each is larger than 25' X 24'.

The different flock is working much better in the past two applications.

We are hoping to splash the caboose next week.

DiveRite will be here the the weekend of the 31st.

Been awhile since the last report so I'll add that Memorial Day we had 10 to 15 foot viz with temps in the low 80's at the surface and upper 70's at the bottom.

Greetings all,

The big Grand Opening is tomorrow and Sun. DiveRite will demo their stuff, PADI & O'Neill will be there as well with give aways. The city of Clute will also have freebies. (O'Niell is giving away one suit. I do not know what PADI is doing.)

We have the caboose in the water and the two large pavilions opened up.

Water temp is 84 on the surface, 82 at 25', 75 below the TC. Viz is 12'.

Take 288 south
45 miles after 610 loop You will hit Lake Jackson
Turn left onto Oyster Creek (Brazos Mall is on your right, this is where 332 & 288 start sharing the same highway)
After 6 (I think) lights turn right onto Dixie (Gas station on the right corner)
about one mile on the left you will see the dive flag

Here's an easier way but a little longer.

go south on 288 till you hit the first traffic light.
Turn left (you will go thru business and residential areas and several stop signs. The street is called "This Way" it changes to "Center Way". Just keep on the same street.)
At the next light turn right (this is Dixie)
Hydrosports will be in the left after 1/4 mile

330 N Dixie
Lake Jackson
979 285 0600

C'mon

Andrew F. and I dove yesterday and had a great time. Plenty of stuff underwater to keep a person busy. We'll be going back ASAP!

It is 6' today. It might be better on the east end since the wind has chewed up where we check.

Viz 12'
Temp is 82-84 above the thermocline. The Thermocline is 31-45' deep due to the aerators. (It basically does not have a thermocline, except for the deep hole.)

It is 9'. We flocked this morning though.

Temp is 84-86 degrees. There is basically no thermocline. (Exept for the deep hole.)

I will be out of country for three weeks so you guys might have to miss me.

We will be sinking the C-130 between July 24th & Aug 4th in two sections. Media will be on hand. (The Discovery Channel will film it.) If you think you might want to help, contact Mike at Hydrosports. He is also allowing folks to come out and watch it on the shore. If it happens before I get back, the date will probably not be posted here.

Also, Mike does not charge for kiddos under 10.

This viz is 8'. We are battling algae as the decaying vegetation is providing food.

The C-130 will not be sunk till at least Aug 4. We are working with the Discover Channel on timing.

This just ran in Brazoria County's Just the Facts Website Dated Aug 11:

Another attraction sent to bottom at Mammoth Lake

Operators and patrons of Vernor and Hydrosports Scuba Shop and Mammoth Lake will really be flying high after an old U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules plane was acquired at auction, or perhaps we should say flying low  as in underwater.

The successful Clute venture just got a lot more exciting with the addition of plane, which served 50 years in the Air Force. Now the plane will be joining other pieces of interesting eye candy for divers to enjoy at the bottom of the 55-acre Mammoth Lake, including a fighter jet, train caboose, pieces of the Mayan Mindbender from now-defunct Astroworld, huge sculptures of mammoths, turtles and pieces from NASA projects.

“The owners of the lake acquire a lot of cool stuff for it,†Hydrosports Scuba owner Michelle Cryer said. “As far as we know, this is going to be the only divable C-130 in the U.S., so it’s a big deal.â€Â

The 100-foot-long Hercules certainly lives up to its name with a 149-foot wingspan. The plane had to be taken apart into several pieces just to submerge it beneath the waters of the sandpit turned lake.

The lake’s name stems from the fact that remains of two mammoths were found by Kenny Vernor’s company while digging the property before Vernor decided to turn it into a diving pond where scuba trainees can get certified.
