Hey y’all!

I’m Chris. I got certified in Colorado and Utah in 2004 but I’m getting back into it now after a while. I’ve dived in sprints in the desert, off Pensacola, once at Catalina island, and in lots of pools . Im excited to get back into diving. I finally have my own equipment and I’m having a lot of fun. I’m open water certified.

I work at a dental office in the heights as a dental assistant and I’m working on prereqs for dental school. Every dentist needs an expensive tropical hobby right? I’m also into film photography and cycling.

Hi, Chris!!! Welcome to this fun group of diving misfits!!! You will certainly find some kindred spirits amongst this jolly bunch. :) If you aren't doing anything tomorrow night, it is our annual monthly gathering - either in person at Jake's Bar or via zoom. Check out this thread for details. This month's meeting is going to be awesome and we'd love to meet you either in person or virtually. :)

Hi everyone!

I am AOW diver certified back in 2013 in New Jersey, but I got away from it for a number of years. My wife and I recently came to Houston for work and I've been looking for ways to get my feet wet again, including taking some classes at a local dive shop (got dry suit certified in 100+ degree heat last month at Mammoth...it was a hot one for sure). I've been on the lookout for more like minded folks, which is how I discovered CHUM.

Outside of diving, I'm a software engineer for a small data analytics company and avid musician (because why have one expensive hobby when you can have two??)

Looking forward to meeting and diving with you all!

Matt

Hi there,
Moved here to Houston for work. Found diving to be extremely good for my soul. However I’m still a rookie…. I am almost to double digits … lol. I learned to dive in the Caribbean (OW) and recently have did a few dives at mammoth lake. Most recent was a dive at Monterey Bay California .. a little chilly but a beautiful.
I am always up for a dive, so please feel free to reach out. It’s hard to be new to the area and new to diving to find people to dive with.
I think I said “dive” way to much..
Looking forward to meeting all of you and again… hit me up if you want to do Mammoth?

Welcome KrabbyKarl! You’ve found the right place if you want to gain dive experience.

Sounds like you have a nice variety of dives in those first ones. Well done!

There’s a group going to Mammoth this Sat if you feel like joining.

Hi,

I just recently completed by AOW at Mammoth Lake and have been getting back into diving after a few (20ish) years away. Born and raised here, but have lived in quite a few difference places over the years. Looking forward to meeting the group!

Thanks!
Hi cosmo! I did the same thing a few years ago ... I'd had a 17 year hiatus since my last dive when I joined CHUM. Glad you found us!

Welcome aboard cosmo! Glad to hear you found your way back to scuba.

You'll find that there are lots of activities to participate in with CHUM. From local dives, trips abroad, land-based activities around town and monthly meetings with interesting guest speakers and topics.

Keep an eye on the Dive Buddy board for opportunities for local diving with other club members.

Hey y’all
JJ here, I’ve been work/living in Houston for 26 months now and during our vacation to the Mediterranean I got my PADI certificate this summer. I have only had 7 dives so far and would love to learn from you as much as I can. Since obviously I’m a newbie and still don’t know many people in the city either, I was hoping to connect with you and hopefully dive along :)

Just a quick question; is this forum the only way to stay connected with the group? Or do you have other platforms?

Cheers,
JJ

Hi JJ, welcome! You’ve come to the right place.

The forums are kind of our central repository but we also spread the word on Facebook, Instagram, ScubaBoard and YouTube. There are scrolling banner ads near the top of the forum pages. Look for the one with the black background. That has links to our pages on each of those.

Also, our monthly meeting is coming up next Thursday, which is a great way to get to know the club. Details on that are at

If you want to get your gear wet, we have a group going to Mammoth Lake on Sat:
