Hiya (phew, you changed your sig!) Don't worry about understanding only 1/3 of what's going on. That's about 100% more than we do. Have you SEEN some of the babble on here?? :D

She completed all the course work and aced the final and did the pool work so she knows more than she's letting on... Plus she listens to me babble all the time about diving...

But she also puts up with me on a constant basis so you should also be nice to her....

Howdy....

Hey all, I am new to this forum, but not to diving. I am always looking to meet new people in the area who share the love and passion of those denizens of the deep. My dive buddy also lives here in Houston but cant always get away. I have only been diving since August 2005, but I have been to places like Roatan, Grand Cayman, Oman, and Guam. This year, I am headed to a return trip to Roatan and a first trip to the Flower Gardens. I hope to make the Houston area Happy Hour and meet other fellow drinkers...err.. divers, I mean.!!

Thanks a lot. I will try to make it out this Thursday as well. Do I have to pay dues to participate?

No but there are membership advantages. Click on the FAQ tab at top of page and check out the membership levels. You are currently a Nurse shark.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. Came across your board at Scubaboard.com and am looking for a local dive club unfortunately there are non in the Brenham/College Station area so I thought I'd check out CHUM.

Both my 15 and 17 year old boys as well as myself recieved our open water certification in March of 2004 and did our first warm water dive in Cozumel January 2005. Unfortunately we have not been diving since but have taken a refesher course last week and intend to start advanced open water and rescue swimmer certifation in August and then off to Belize in June 07.

Other than that nice to meet you all.

Good Day

Hello.

I am new to Houston and it looks like I will be here for a couple years. In the past 7 years I have done like...5 dives :( and its time to get back into it. Before this 7 year dry spell I was an active diver. Started diving in high school (1989), worked as a PADI OWI after graduation and was a IANTD advanced nitrox instructor for awhile. Managed to work on a liveaboard dive boat for about 2 years. Overall I was lucky to do all the diving I wanted to do for 9 about years. All my diving has been around Vancouver Island, Canada.

Now, after going back to school and getting a little older, I cannot fit into my drysuit and it scares me to think of what an air pig I am now. Hopfully by the middle of July I will have my gear shipped in from up North. Until then I will try to get to the pub to meet some new people. If all goes well, there should be diving nearly every weekend and a nice trip once or twice a year...thats what I am working towards anyway :D.

Best regards,
Myles Washburn (JohnyGluebag)

I'm very sorry to hear that.

I also feel for you on the lack of diving.

Seriously, Houston is a nice place overall but in about 6 weeks you will know what I meant. We've had an unusually wet and cool start to summer.

Our next monthly meeting is 3 weeks away but there's a scuba Happy Hour this Friday.

Hi All... New to Texas. Used to live in Laguna Beach, CA and dive from shore and out at Catalina about 200 times a year (mostly with classes). I'm dying to find some places/people to dive with. So far, I've been to twin lakes, the blue lagoon and I found a whopping 12 feet at the frio river, which was surprisingly very interesting. In addition to the scuba thang, I also like to freedive and spearfish. Don't know what's out here, but I'd love to find out!

Hi, I met some of you at the last HH at Stag's Head. A little about myself. I'm orginally from CT, I've been in Houston for almost a year now. I am at Rice getting my MBA and didn't dive enough last year while I was in school. I'd like to change that this year :)

I'll keep it short for now. ;)

New to the forum, but have been to a few meetings

Hi!

My name is Sharon. I was introduced to the Chum club by Captain Randy, who is my significant other and scuba yoda. I had never really been introduced to the scuba realm until I met Randy but if you date a scuba instructor, learning to dive is a bit of a prerequisite. Added bonus, I loved it! I have completed my rescue diver and have only my map and emergency plan to finish my dive master.

I have been to Cayman, Cozumel, and California. I have also had one memorable rig dive in the Gulf last summer. Unfortunately our boat sunk during hurrican Rita last year, but the dive shop my sweetie owns is in the final processes of buying another, better one so I look forward to more great Gulf dives in the future.

About me, I am originally from Ottawa, Canada. I moved here ten years ago to further my career as a nurse and escape the cold and snow. I work in the clinics at UTMB and live in Webster. In addition to scuba diving, I love to read, watch movies wherever (theater, DVD, satelite), ride motorcycles when we have one working and spending time with my fur children (1 dog and 1 cat).

My future goals for scuba are to finish my dive master and go to some great places we have been dreaming about. These include Scapa flow, Bikini Atoll, Roatan, and Australia.

I have attended a few of the Chum Club meetings so I have met a few of the members. I look forward to talking more of you.

HI! :)

Hey there CHUM

New to diving but pretty excited about it. Just got trained and am going to be asking a lot of questions on the boards. I'm glad I found this website and you might see me running around a HH or two in the near future.

I'm in Houston by way of Rio Hondo, TX, in the Rio Grande Valley. Got into this to ultimately go spearfishing as much as I can. Headed to Roatan next summer so I'll definetly get a dive or two in there.

Work as a superintendent for a commercial GC. Building HS #9 for Cy Fair right now.

Anyways, I'll be seeing you around.

You'll love Roatan - check out some of the photos in the gallery from past trips.

Hi All

Hi all. I am so glad to find a ive club here in Houston. My wife and I recently moved here from Fort Lauderdale. I am PADI certified but still a newbie. My wife doesn't dive but likes the boat trip part of things. We will see you all (or now that we are in Texas-Ya'll) Thursday.
Regards,
Howard

Diver in the making.

Hi everyone,

I posted a few notes already and completely forgot to introduce myself. My name is Monika and I moved to Houston almost 7 years ago. I love reading and long walks on the beach... eh, forget that :D

I got OW certified on August 6 (yay) but have not dived since - been fighting ear infections instead. I am looking to complete a few specialized courses and then go for my advanced OWD. Ultimately, I would like to be a Master Scuba Diver, if God's willing. I plan to dive often but locally only for now, until I get comfortable in the water and with the equipment (that I don't own just yet).

I hope to meet you guys at the monthly meeting this Thursday. See you there!
