New to Houston

Hi everyone. My name is Jeff and I just moved to Houston from Boston for a new job. I started diving about a year and a half ago and am looking forward to some Texas sites soon. I had a Flower Garden trip get weathered out on my in March and am looking to make it up the last weekend in April (28th I think). I'm also currently planning a trip to Belize in July pending vacation approval from the new job. I was pointed to CHUM about a month ago by ReefHound on scubaboard and after a month of just reading the forums decided it was time to join the club. The need to participate in the turtle race I just saw posted helped force me to register, so thanks. I look forward to meeting everybody at the next meeting and diving with you all soon, my tanks are just waiting for a fresh fill...

Hello! I'm Vicky. I' m a born Jersey Girl and adopted Texan. I certified way back in '85 at Houston Scuba Academy and have gone diving off VA Fogg, Flower Gardens/Stetson Bank, Belize, and the Philippines. I focused on college studies for a while and have come full circle, bringing my husband in tow (almost). We'll be taking classes up in Killeen when he comes back from deployment (Army) and am defniitely looking forward to reaching the depths again!

Good to have you aboard Vabs,

We've always got something going on around here. If you have time try to swing by the Dragon Boat Pub Crawl this thursday or we have our monthly meeting next thursday. I think this group just might be able to keep you guys blowing bubbles.

Cheers,

Ryan

Thanks GWNDWN! I'd like to meet up one of these days, but for the next month or two, I have pre-existing plans for Thursdays :( , but as soon as those are done with, I'll be there!

I haven't done much (web) surfing to find out how active other groups are, but the ones I have seen, this is by far the most active!

Finally Checking in

Being associated with the Mammoth Lake in Clute I've met several CHUM members and have intended to join but just now got one of those Roundtoits.

I've been diving about 15 years. I've done quite bit of diving in the Gulf, spearfishing and the Flower Gardens/Stetson Bank. I used to work the Fling and Spree as a divemaster quite a bit but I'm just going as the occasional trip leader now. I've also done quite a bit of diving down in the Caribbean, in Florida, even a little bit in Alaska (Note: 85° water is far superior to 45° water). The new still hasn't worn off. I still enjoy swimming around a lake or sand pit when I can't dive the reefs.

I'm heading over to Key Largo next month, back down to Cayman Brac in July and the turning around and going back to Panama City, Florida with the Brazosort Underwater Club right after I get back from Brac.

First I wanted to say thanks to Sushi Boy for telling me about the club, and to everyone I met at Sea Space.

As far as my background, I started diving in 94’ and became a PADI instructor in 95’ (I was on a mission), then taught for a few years. Since then it has only been diving for fun and I’m lucky to get wet a few times a year. So I guess I’m here to change that, I’m also looking to re-do my Advanced Nitrox and Deep Air this year, actually I’m not sure if I ever finished those or not.

I’m trying to make the meeting tonight, so hope to see many of you there.

hello

I'm looking forward to meeting some of you tonight; I expect there will be a few familiar faces. My first dive was in the English Channel in 1968, with a home-made wetsuit, twin hose regulator and J-valve, and a horsecollar lifevest with a CO2 cartridge for emergencies. More recently my shorty wetsuit has become quite well known, with some thinking that perhaps it too was home-made. I'm pleased to announce that finally it was honorably retired last fall.

Hello everyone

I joined this forum quite some time ago, but had a computer crash and got a new one and forgot to add this back into my favorites and forgot about it. So sorry, I am reading thru some of the posts and I am really glad I found you again. I hope to be more active in the forum now .
Just thought I'd re-introduce myself and say hello. My name is Jana and my hubby and I live in Spring, tx. We have been certified for 6 years now and love it. I am more fanatical about it than my husband but then again I am fanatical about most fun stuff. Anyway, just wanted to say hey and glad I found you guys again.

Welcome. This is the place that will help you get your dive count up. Something is almost always going on and all enjoy helping a new diver turn into a seasoned diver.
