Howdy - Ron from the east side (Baytown) here. Been diving since learning to dive at Cape Fear NC in 1989 - made it up through DM and went through hypoxic trimix in 2000 -just got my mix blender ticket punched last month and I can hardly wait to start mixing - mix.

I have a bunch of dives in and around Harris and Chambers Co. but most are zero vis dives in the San Jac river, Houston Ship Channel or just about anywhere there is water and someone could throw something, drive a car into or down in... I have been the Sergeant of the Harris County Sheriff's Office Dive Team since 1999.

I love to spearfish and wreck dive!

I heard about Chum from Capt. Frank on the Spree and I clicked on a link by Sushi Boy over on ScubaBoard (im a "dimwit")

Glad to be here!

Welcome to the club. Another cop, just what a drinking club with a diving problem needs. Joking.

We've had the HPD dive team as monthly speakers at our meetings a few times so we've heard some of the sordid stories. That stuff always goes over great, would love to hear more.

We'll have to get you out to some of our blue water wreck dives though we've been known to do some zero viz dives ourselves.

Very cool. The HPD folks are a professional bunch - I have enjoyed thier company on more than a few occasions and I am glad to have them as neighbors.

I don't do zero vis on my own time - if I can avoid it... The good news is that I have a healthy respect for visibility - anything better than zero is nice.

Welcome to the club. I got to check out the Houston divers at the last Seaspace and that arm mounted underwater camera sonar(radar?) thing was cool.

Hi.

I'm originally from the Baltimore DC area, SYSCO brought me to Houston about 13+ years ago. I got certified about 20 yrs ago in a rock quarry in PA! I wanted to dive because my sister did, anything my big sister did I had to do!

She has been diving three times in the last 20 yrs and I'm about to begin my instructor's classes!

There's no place I'd rather be than underwater!

Hello y'all. I appreciate the warm welcome and information last night. I have lived in Houston my whole life. I am completing my open water dive this weekend. I have always enjoyed diving and look forward to learning more and meeting some others with the same interest. I am signing up for Dive around Texas and considering doing Trash Fest. Day job includes Commercial real estate specializing with Retail Tenant Representation. Looking forward to grabbing some beers.

Cheers,

HP

Greetings!

Hello everyone, Kevin is the name. New to scuba PADI OW certification received finally this past March. Just in time for my first trip one week later to beautiful Cozumel! Went on 4 day, 2 tank dives with Dive with Martin...absolutely fell in love with diving! I have to admit that 70 ft down in Cozumel is worlds apart from 25 ft in March at Mammoth and 288! That's where I did my check outs! I have taken some time in amassing my gear but have almost everything now, I guess all I really need is a better 'puter and a couple of dive lights.

Hi, I'm originally from Rhode Island but moved to Houston in 1992 & certified w/dive buddy OJ Strickland in Katy back some 8 yrs ago; was involved w/Hammerheads beginning. I've been out of commission physically for a while; but am sick of being in seclusion and am on the way to regaining my stamina back. I've been away from diving for a while, some physical but mostly financial circumstances, have 3 boys in college. Watch out world.....I'm back!!

I see you are a late night surfer. Glad you are ready to get back in the underwater world. You shouldn't have any problem finding some dive buddies here.

Hello Fellow Chum Members,

My Name is Susan and I'm new to the Chum Club, also to the experience of diving in Houston. I've been in Houston 4 years. Best dive location so far has been Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Dove the Shipwreck of the SS Thistlegorm. An amazing boat wreck. I look forward to meeting some of you and diving together soon. :happyeyepatch:
