So anyone have any idea how much vinegar it takes to fill up 20% of a bathtub? Or is there a better way to do this gear wash thing?
Yeah I wondered about that myself. When disinfecting the rebreather they recommend a spray bottle and soak approach, but you can immerse too. The tablets used are rely-on (virkon in europe) but I guess the emphasis is disinfecting not necessarily killing invasive species (although Virkon is also used for veterinary treatments) but I bet it does the trick.

So.... 8 gallons of white vinegar for my 40 gallon rinse tub, that's $16 from Walmart or $21 from Kroger (including tax). Wow. I guess I'll be doing it tonight because I want dry gear for the first dive this weekend.

I ended up buying a 20 gallon tub. 3 gallons of vinegar and 12 gallons of water, and you should end with plenty of solution to soak your gear. But you'll have to do it in batches.

FYI, the vinegar will slightly dissolve your weights. I'm sure it's not enough to affect your weights, but it will turn the solution white after the first batch.

20 gallons of vinegar solution. I couldn't bring myself to make any more. After tipping it out, my driveway stinks.
Could really use some rain tonight.

I made the mistake of doing it in the spare bathroom. It still reeks of vinegar.

I'm planning on leaving after work, but I have to run by the dive shop to pick up tanks before I can leave town. Hoping to be on the road by 7 at the latest. I'll let you guys know.

OOOOOOH, today is the day!!!! I am so excited for you CHUMmers that are taking the class today. You are doing a really neat thing, becoming a certified scientific diver volunteer for The Meadows Center. It is such a wonderful honor to help care for these pristine waters in exchange for the privilege of diving this clear water year round. You will never see Texas inland diving the same.

Good luck, CHUM. You make us proud to have a new group of Spring Lake Divers!!

Yeah that was a random surprise to head to the entry dock and up pops LegoBlox and BirdDog in full sidemount.

I'd never seen the lake before, but the water clarity was every bit as good as people say. Bit cold for a 3mm suit though! I kept thinking about the dry suit in my car that I should have worno_O thank God it was blue skies and sunny to warm us up afterwards.

I'd be up for a weekend to do a bit of volunteering in Dec or more likely January.

Talk about timing, it was like a change of guard. Y'all were coming off the ramp as we were walking down.

Yesterday was a great day. The early start after a late night was like being back in school. The class was well put together and it was quite informative. An interesting note was that they are working on a DAC 2. It would include more of the area's biology, go a little further in depth, and end on a night dive.

The training area was the wild west, it was a bunch of people even as we started the dive we crossed paths with the other group. Now to set the date to make the return.

Same. Might be able to make a December weekend work, but I should most certainly be able to make one in January work.
