I actually thought viz was pretty good. We were the only divers in the water (my wife and I) so that may have had something to do with it. :piratewithhat2:

That video is probably second time I have seen the opposite side of a platform at BL. The other time was a different video.

it's true: the other side of the platform does exist...contrary to common lore. Actually this viz here in texas is really good compared to where I learned to dive in WV. Lets just say that my compass is my best dive buddy.

You'll feel right at home diving around Houston then. Average vis during the summer is about 5ft at BL and 288. We dove Offat's Bayou a handful of months back for the monthly dive outing and had a whole 6in.

We were up at blue lagoon yesterday and today. Viz was pretty good yesterday morning before all the classes got in and was not as good today which was understandable. At least it made it more realistic for us doing our search patterns as part of our rescue diver training.

I was there about a month ago. Swimmers were like cattle going into the water - that may be the viz prob. Seems the rules have changed drastically up there.

Swimmers are not allowed into the lagoon until after noon and only if shelters become available as divers leave. There are numerous classes going on in the lagoon as well which also affects the viz. When we arrived on sunday at 9am there was a line of swimmers cars already parked up outside, the first being there from 7am. They all knew they wouldn't get in till after 12 at the earliest. There aren't many locations around the Houston area for diving and its hard to make them profitable on divers entry alone. If swimmers help ensure a local dive location stays available I'm happy to get up there early in the morning and get my dives in early. That leaves the rest of the day for eating, drinking and hanging in a gorgeous location. Personally I'm impressed with the swimmers dedication, waiting five hours to get in.
