I stumbled across Soul of the Ocean on PBS this evening. I was thinking how stunning it was, then realized why. It's a Howard Hall production.

It's well worth watching. Not sure if Channel 8 is going to air it again, but I believe you can watch it on Amazon Prime or at the link above. I'd say watch it on the biggest, highest resolution screen you can.

The Florida Keys tourism council has launched FloridaKeysTV, a free, on-demand globally streaming channel showcasing exclusive programming dedicated to the Florida Keys & Key West.

Looks like some good escapist content. Who here has had a chance to watch any of it?

Cool - thanks. I wasn't able to Zoom in last month so I'd love to see this; plus I'm a fan of the show anyway and it's always recording so I'll get to see it. Thanks @Sushi Boy

It's a two parter so I'll report back. Overall, typical Josh Gates fare and I'm certainly learning about the Sudan and the Kush.

Part two is tonight, I think, but two things I liked about part one; especially for non divers who watched. The goal was to reach the third chamber where the king is. They had to swim through zero viz to get there so they showed what the divers had to do using a cartoon - that's not the right word but I can't think of it right now. Effective. Also, Josh drove several hundred miles or so (I think) to a pyramid that was set up very much like the one that was submerged so he could see it above ground to better help him with his bearings once he got back underwater. Again, especially for someone like me who can get claustrophobic underwater, it was effective.

The other thing that I've always been amazed at whenever I watch this show is that yeah, Josh goes some amazing places and does amazing stuff but his crew does it even better. They're doing everything he's doing but they're also carrying all this equipment. Especially when he's diving or when he's in tiny places, I'm just in awe of the crew.

So, the cliffhanger from last week was that Josh went back under the pyramid but lost his bearings and the guide line - again, zero viz. Will he be rescued? Will he get out alive? We'll find out tonight :) But jokes aside, I'm sure it was very scary. But I'm also sure he's fine.

I ended up watching the PBS Nature episode on octopuses. Really amazing! Cool to see how fast they can change colors and textures to camouflage themselves. I have never seen one in the wild, hope to one day.

So I here I am up at the butt crack of dawn, turn on my prime tv and what do I see a new movie release called The Dive, in theaters and rent on prime.
looks like two friend go diving, one gets trapped and the other has to get help to get her out and has to get her out before she runs out of air. Oh yeah they are in full face masks with mic. IF I get board enough this weekend and run out of things to do, and not I don't think i can watch it.
happy friday all

Fascinating documentaries have just come out on Discovery+/HBO/Max (Implosion) and Netflix (Titan). They cover the Oceangate Titan loss at the Titanic in 2023.

I've seen Implosion now and its compelling but chilling. The picture painted of CEO Stockton Rush (who died in the accident) was one of someone who just waved warnings away and did not pay attention to safety. But he and his organisation just kept going, until the end. It's a cautionary tale about the importance of a safety 'culture', something that resonates in scuba.

A "move fast and break things" approach has the real and ever-present potential for truly catastrophic outcomes...

Thanks for posting this Chris!

I also just watched Implosion ...oof. As @DeepGeek said, chilling to see just how Stockton Rush ran his operation. And so very sad.

The good news is that, not unlike what happened with the Titanic, maritime rules will change to avoid this type of accident in the future.
