July dive done. Birddog and myself were able to sneak in a quick dive in the White Sea on our recent visit to Russia in search of Baluga whales. No whales on the dive but did see plenty of star fish, jelly fish and macro beasties. Harvested some muscles for lunch, washed down with some green tea and drop or two of whisky.

24% and I did our July dive on the Elmwood Shipwreck - an easy and lovely shore dive on the West Arm of Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan. We were thrilled when the local dive shop told us the current temperatures. 71 degrees CLEARLY means diving a wetsuit. After the wreck, if you head due north, you will find the rock wall that separates the city marina from the lake. Big fish, lots of life, and sunny waters.

Diving in Traverse Bay is a great experience. It is a very active dive scene up here, and it is not hard to understand why. The LDS gave us 4 good air fills at a low price, and a very detailed page of all the dive sites, coordinates, directions, descriptions, etc. Lots of shore dives! We were so spoiled diving the Elmwood. It is located off the shores of a city park with a swim beach. We had close free parking to a covered pavilion with built in picnic tables, and clean changing rooms/bathrooms. After a super short walk down a wheelchair access ramp to the water, you swim straight out, and there it is. Easy peasy. We were told that the current visibility was apparently “poor” due to recent rain and the direction of the wind. But to us, their idea of “poor” visibility is like diving the Blue Lagoon on it's best days. Divers up here are spoiled.

Here is a short YouTube video we found, from April 2015, on diving the Elmwood, and includes the rock wall towards the end.
