We dove at 288 on 6/20

Temps were about 90-92 down to 18' and then in the 70s below the thermocline.

Vis was about 30 ft. We could see all the way across the dive platforms and the full length of the boats.

Wow....thats unreal!

We dove at Mammoth Lake for the first time today.

Vis was 30 feet and temp was 86 and no thermocline.

They have cave diver string going from object to object. It was a blast seeing a whole bunch of the things they have sunk in the lake. My favorite was the C-130.

We really appreciated the covered picnic tables at the dive sites.

I have seen 20'+ but 30' would be really nice. Since the hurricane is going to mess the gulf up so I would be going offshore so it looks like I will get a chance to dive ML this weekend. Last year the best day of the summer was 4th of July weekend with around 20'.

This weekend was one of the best I have seen as far as viz goes. I had a class and stayed in the area right behind the shop. Even with a lot of divers in the area the viz stayed 15'.

Yesterday morning we dropped down on a secondary platform that was moved behind the one directly behind the shop. No one had been there in a while and the viz was great. There were several good size fish just hanging out on the platform just watching us.

We dove in Mammoth Lake again today.

We just about had the whole lake to ourselves

There was a ton of rain this week so viz was not as good as last week.

Viz was 5-10 ft, maybe 15 in a few places. Temp was 84.

Mammoth 3 weeks in a row.

You guys need to come out to Mammoth. It is awesome!

Viz was 15+ today. Temps were 84 and no thermocline

We did a 78 minute and a 72 minute dive.

We went down the pipe to 59 feet, swam inside the metro bus, and found lots of new stuff including boathenge.

Saw lots of striped bass and sunfish. i didn't see any catfish today.

In between dives we went to subway and took advantage of their $2 6-inch subs.

We will have to miss diving next week because we will be in Alaska but will probably be back at Mammoth Lake on Sunday 7/25.

I did not dive on Sun. but visited. This lake is most likely to become the fav. spot for training. It seems it has stabilized after a long "healing in" process - maturing so to speak. When you combine the neat stuff, close proximity, and "life & depth", w/o pollution, etc,. I'd be taking all my students there if I was still teaching. The owners have done a good job.

We still have a long a way to go. We are trying something different to stop the algae bloom. So far it is working very well.

We also will be sinking a school bus and a large tractor truck soon. We plan to relocate some items that are not being visited. Like a large semi that we pushed off in a hole before we flooded the place.

I was out at Mammoth yesterday completing the open water partion of the Dive Con class. The temps were in upper 80's at the surface and mid 80's at depth. The viz in the lake was 15 at platform improving to the 20's off the platform. At places I could see structure on the bottom from the surface. Mike and the guys are doing a great job.

We were at Mammoth Lake today. I saw Driftdiver there also teaching a class.

Vis was 20 feet and temps were 88. The coldest it got was 87.

We had a 93 minute dive and a 92 minute dive.

You have got to go into the C-130. They added a skeleton in the pilot seat and a coffin in the back of the plane that says "Do Not Disturb" or something like that. When you open the coffin a skeleton sits up.

We also practiced our buoyancy control swimming through and under everything we could find - C-130, centipede, yellow submarine, pipes, towers, boats, etc

On the 16' by 16' platform behind Hydrosports Scuba shop, you could be on one side and make out features of the students 16' away on the other side. At 10', you could clearly see a persons facial expressions. Amazing how much better the lake has been this summer.

Dove at Mammoth on Saturday. Visibility was 15 feet. The water on the top felt like bath water, but below it was perfect. We had a great time!

At $100 it might be tempting but I can't see many people making more than 12 visits per year unless instructing in which case they aren't paying admission anyway.
