Absolutely he does! I think I obsess about it a little more than he does, but yes we both love it! Where are the meetings again? I would love to come to them. Thanks again!

Actually, the best source of info is the **Upcoming Events** post that not only gives the date and location of the meetings (and all other major CHUM events and trips) but a link to a map.

I come by the name naturally. When we come back from Cayman every year we have as much as we can bring legally, (and then some) But let me clarify that! Last year we met a few guys on the dive boat that was on the same flight as us. They purchased a few bottles themselves and it was really strange, once they got thru customs they decided they didnt want the rum anymore. So they asked us if we wanted it. Wasn't that nice of them?

Hi everybody,

Thought I'd take the opportunity to introduce myself on this thread. I am a keen and developing diver, mainly doing a bout of studying in London for the moment. If you don't find me in some cold water or pool (it is the UK after all), I am travelling around various parts of the world, thinking about geology.

I will be in Houston from 3rd June to 31st October, and possibly again for short assignments after that for the next couple of years. Obviously, since I don't know the area yet (or any fellow divers for that matter), I am looking for as many opportunities as possible to get wet in the evenings or weekends (and enjoy the warm waters!). Doing a bit of internet dreaming brought me to the CHUM thread and it seems I have found the right spot to exactly do that.

Because I've been moving about too much the last couple of years, I haven't had the proper UW experience that I want, hence the resolution to better my life in the warm Gulf waters and get as much diving/drinking/training/bubbling/enjoying done as possible. So, if you can give me any excuse to go diving, please don't hesitate to e-mail/pm me directly or point me in the right direction to get into contact with fellow compressed air addicts.

Hoping to meet somewhere submerged,
Peter

Hi Pete and welcome to the board - you'll find a good mix on CHUM, there's a number of fellow Brits aboard (yours truly included) and our meeting place is a Brit pub, so you won't have beer culture shock too badly. Let us know when you hit town.

New to the group

Greetings. I'm new to the group from Scubaboard.

I lived in Houston back in the early 90s. Since 94 I've been land locked in Austin, with occasional escapes to dive in salt water.

As of February 15, I am the proud owner of Oak Hill Scuba in Austin, TX. Let me know if your planning a trip to Lake Travis and I'll be glad to help any way I can. Sorry, free gear is beyond my ability to help. LOL

If any of you are planning to be at the lake this weekend (May 20), some of the Texas Swamp Divers will be diving at Windy Point. You are all welcome to join us.

I'm also interested in helping with the diver specialty plate. Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Hello everyone,

I'm a native Houstonian that loves diving. I'm 31 years old and run a commercial/residential mortgage biz for the past 8 years. www.resource-funding.com .. had to throw that in...lol

I recently decided to work towards my Open Water Instructor certification. I would love to be involved with instructing new diver's on a part-time basis and being involved with like-minded people.
Someone directed me to this website because not too many of my buds dive.

Anyways, I look forward to meeting every1.

peace

Brad B.

activities at Chum

Hi!

I have met many of you at the previous meeting and at the Roller Derby game. I am new in town and still looking for activities to to participate. --Have heard of the Chum achievement at the dragon boat competition. Cool! Wondering if anyone heard of "underwater hockey" and where to play the game in Houston? Or, any interests?

Cheers,
Aron

I have fairly recently moved to houston from Qatar where I was a very active BSAC diver. I became a BSAC Instructor there but can't teach here so I crossed over to PADI and became a PADI OWI just recently. Also just got a TDI Trimix cert. Looking to hook up with some divers in the area.

Did you hang out at the rugby club in Doha? I've got a few buddies there and was over there back in March.

Hi Johno,

Welcome to the group, and to Houston. How do you like it here so far? There are quite a few technical divers on this forum so finding a buddy for technical shouldn't be too much of a problem. You also might want to got into one of the trips to the Oriskany. She hits the sand at a little over 200' and is going to make for a great technical site only several hours drive away. Come by one of the meetings so you can meet some of the group...

Chunky.

Ryan: I'm very keen to keep up my tech skills. Do you guys have a regular subgroup of divers that does this together or is it one offs in pairs? be very interested in meeting you all.

we have an emerging group of tekkies...it's just a matter of getting enough together to put some dives together.

Howdy everybody! Many of you know me as the girl who puts up with Chunky. I am a native Texan and have been diving for... well, never. I am this diving forum's token non-diver.

Once, I attempted to get certified, but 1/2-way through the class I decided that I just don't like being under water. [I have since realized that this is probably because you can't talk under water. I like to talk... a lot.] I do, however love to socialize and meet new people! I've been poking around the site a bit, and I think I understand about every third in most of the posts. So, my only request is that is you speak to me, please speak English and not diver. I just don't understand diver yet.

Hiya (phew, you changed your sig!) Don't worry about understanding only 1/3 of what's going on. That's about 100% more than we do. Have you SEEN some of the babble on here?? :D
