Welcome Barracuda

Barracuda,

Welcome to CHUM.
We wouldn't want you to feel toooooo homesick for Cold and Dark.
You should consider the Valhalla Trip.

Welcome Barracuda!

Glad to see that you logged on, and it was great meeting you the other day. You'll like the people on here. Very hearty divers, though a different type of diving then you are used to.

The dive boats that go out are few and far between, but if people start speaking up more, maybe more boats will apear.

Thanks for educating me on where I'm going...the least I could do was tell you where to find the divers in Houston...

Welcome aboard.

If you like wrecks, and can get a random day off possibly in the middle of the week, you should get on the waiting list for the First on the Clipper Trip. It's gonna be Texas' premier diving destination and we're the first ones diving it.

Odds are someone won't be able to make it (hope it's not me:eek: ) so those on the waiting list have a very good chance of actually going.

Howdy all!

My wife (ashleyj) and I joined the club this year. We're looking to do some more local stuff this year (I'm going on my first CHUM trip with the TX Clipper - yeah!) as well as meet some great new people to hang out with. I've been diving since '92 and have PADI Rescue Diver + 4-5 Specialty Courses. My wife got certified in '04 with her PADI OW. I've got 100+ dives logged from mostly all over the Caribbean, but also Flower Gardens/TX Coast, Puerto Vallarta and Tahiti/French Polynesia. My wife has only been on a couple of trips - 1 to Jamaica and Tahiti/French Polynesia. I'm still trying to get her as gung-ho about it as I am.

We're also both Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of '97! She has an accounting degree, and I an engineering degree. But I promise, we're not nerds! ;) In my avatar you'll see our two "kids" - Jake, our black lab, and Max, our Weimaraner. They're absolutely crazy fun and love going to the beach!

See y'all around!

Shannon

P.S. - BuLi stands for BudLight - my beer of choice in college (although I've since graduated to mostly dark beer now).

Hello CHUM!

Hi everybody! (It's harder to type like Dr. Nick sounds then it looks... )

I am fresh meat in the scuba world; I just got my OW cert this past weekend!! I absolutely love the sport and have bought most of my own gear already. I found your little corner of the internet through scubaboard. I think a few of you have responded to the stupid things I've been asking over there in the Texas Swamp Divers board, so thanks! I thought I'd come over here and pester more of you with silly newbie questions about diving and scuba in Houston!! :D

I have been in Houston for 6 1/2 years. I moved down here for a job from the great state of Chicago! :D (poor Bears) I had previously done 2 different "discover scuba" dives in the Bahamas and Oahu a few years ago, so I have known for a long time that I wanted to get into scuba diving, but I just haven't found the time to do it until now. Now, of course, I'm mad as hell for having waited this long!!

Anyway, I'm completely hooked on this sport and as long as my girlfriend will let me, I want to try and dive at least twice per month, maybe even every weekend. I'm over in the Clear Lake side of Houston, so Twin Lakes, Mammoth (when it opens), and Blue Lagoon are the places that I know of nearby to get wet quick. I am going to try to make it up to a CHUM meeting in the near future to say hello!

Happy to be here!
Dave

Hey!

Welcome Tank, or in native Chicago tongue, hey. It's always great to meet another Chicago transplant. Now for the real test ... Sox fan or Cubs fan?

Cubs fan, but my dad is a South side supporter. So being down here in Astros territory, I'm sort of both. ;) I actually have more Sox gear, because my dad kept sending me stuff from the 05 season!

So why did you move to Texas? Just curious. I moved here in '01 from Buffalo, NY....

NASA brought me down here. I'm an aerospace engineer by education (I'd probably flunk most of the classes now). Work is fun, but this heat sure takes some getting used to!!

It takes a few years but eventually you will realize that there is no acclimating to this environment and you will grow a long lasting love affair with your AC.

Actually, that first step out of the moving truck 6 years ago was pure hell, but every year the summers seem more and more tolerable even though they keep telling me it was a bad summer. Either I'm acclimating or sections of my brain are getting fried each summer.... probably the later;)

Next time, you should probably wait for the truck to stop...

oh it was stopped alright but going from Buffalo NY where it was low 50's with 0% humidity to Houston on June 1st was not a fun welcome. Neither was Tropical storm Allison the following weekend... And living next to a bayou after that storm was not fun either. Damn bugs... It was one of the worst experiences I have ever had when it comes to weather-shock. If I wasn't broke when I got here I might have left.

Luckily for all of you I stayed;)

Martin.
