I actually have more Sox gear, because my dad kept sending me stuff from the 05 season!

I assume you are refering to the White Sox 2005 World Championship season where they started strong, maintained superior play throughout, and took it all in postseason even without Ordonez and The Big Hurt. Did I mention I grew up on the South Side?

It's easy to be an Astors fan when you hate the Cubs.

Hi everyone,

It was recommended to me as a new Club member I needed to introduce myself. So here goes…

I am a native Texan and have lived in Houston since 1979. I’m also an “Air Force brat†and grew up living in many different places … the most memorable was the 4 years we lived in “Anchorage, Alaska. Over the years I have worn many “hats,†but my primary background is in nursing, operating room technology, and drug research. Current occupation? Well, I don’t have one and don’t want one…I quit work a year ago (decided to hang it up) and I’m loving it! Besides I got tired of all the “BS†and stress. My goal is to be able to do as much diving, relaxing and enjoying life as possible before the money runs out!

After being a single parent for 13 years raising two boys, I met the love of my life and remarried (25 yrs ago). We wanted a “hobby†we could share together and decided on “scuba divingâ€Â…as the saying goes…the rest was history! In 1994, I received my advanced NAUI certification in Cozumel, and Nitrox certification in 2000 on the Belize Aggressor. Since then I have enjoyed diving with my dive buddy-husband in: Aruba, the Bahamas, Bonaire, Belize, Cayman, Florida, and Hawaii, as well as taking several dive trips yearly to Cozumel (our home away-from-home). Diving is my passion…I love networking with other divers and encourage as many people as I can to consider scuba. I am an active member in several local scuba clubs where I have coordinated Club social activities and a volunteer at Seaspace for the past 14 years. I joined CHUM in February 2007, was 1st Place Winner in the Club’s 1st Chili Cook-Off and attended the Dive Pirates Ball held recently at the Aquarium Restaurant downtown. I look forward to being a member of CHUM, participating in Club activities and meeting other members.

New To Diving

I am 60 years old and just became "Open Water Certified" this past December at the Blue Lagoon. I did a "Discover Scuba" in November from a cruise I was on in Cozumel and liked it and went home to get certified. Last week I was on another cruise and did my first official two dives in the Grand Cayman and two days later did two more in Cozumel. These are my only dives since being ceritifed. Live in the Spring area and would like to go to Blue lagoon to get more practice and such on a regular basis.

Do you have people who go there regularly with various types of experiences that will buddy up with you or are the more advanced divers bored with going with a new comer.

Hey Sulross and welcome. Once the water warms up you'll see groups heading somewhere all the time. If you ever want to go to the lagoon just post a thread and see who bites. typically someone will

Welcome to CHUM. Sounds like you've got your diving log off to a great start. I think you'll find that the more experienced divers here are thrilled to help new divers develop. Don't hesitate to throw your name in the hat on social get-togethers and dive trips you see posted, if you have doubts just ask and people here will let you know if there is experience/training you should have for certain dives and help get you there.

Thanks

Thanks Blackhawksq and ReefHound for responding. I am excited about getting started in diving even at 60 years of age, but enjoyed the heck out of it. Can't make a lot of trips, but the Blue Lagoon is close and even that should help me get accustomed to certain things and just get more comfortable in the water. Do those dives count in your log? I will probably be at meetings when in town. Thanks again

You bet they count. The local ponds like BL and Twin Lakes is where you practice and hone your skills so you can better enjoy those special trips.

Greetings All,

I found this board while looking for information on the Mammoth Lake Scuba Park. I'm a native Texan currenly residing in the Magnolia area. I recieved my Open Water cetification about a year ago. Most of my diving so far has been limited to the Blue Lagoon and my parents swimming pool. However my dive buddies and I took a trip to Key Largo last August for my first Saltwater dives. We rented our own boat and had some incredible dives. I definatly got the bug for Diving. I'm Heading Back to the Keys in April to dive the Speigal Grove. I can't wait.

Hello All,

I found this board while reading ScubaBoard. I think it was a post by Jay Diver. I love to scubadive but haven't done much locally. My wife and I always enjoy snorkling/camping in the hill country though. I was thrilled to find that there were others in Houston that are diving. I have been a scuba diver since '92, but have not been on that many dives. About 35 so far. I received my PADI AOW last summer in Roatan. We had a great time there. The water/reefs were so beautiful. I would like to dive more and look forward to meeting you at the Stags Head soon.
