Looks like I posted this in the wrong section, when I just dropped it in the Main Forum. But here's a cut & paste of my story with some edits.
When was surfing the internet looking in Houston for local dive shops I came across the Chum website. I about fell off my chair when I saw your mantra "drinkers with a diving problem." And after reading more through the forums, I believe I've found what I've been looking for, a social group (not a dive shop) of people in the Houston area who like to go diving and have fun.
A little about me: My name is Van and I live in The Woodlands, TX. My handle, BlueSnake comes from my new (to me) project car, a 1998 Bright Atlantic Blue Cobra Mustang. I got the car on January 3 and have just now got it in driving condition.
I'm a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, which I just obtained this year! I work for an oilfield service company also in The Woodlands.
My wife (gypsy diver) and I are new divers pushing 40 years old. We did our OWI certification at the Blue Lagoon in July and now both have our NAUI C-cards. We're still waiting on our YMCA cards to come in and we're planning to do our AOW next month.
We're both somewhat nontraditional people. I'm somewhat of a geek, car guy, technophile, (real) beer drinker, pirate wannabe. She's a, well, I'm not going to speak for her, other than we like going to the Rennaissance Festival, but are not complete rengeeks. We enjoy adult beverages, but are not teetotalers. We're freethinkers but not complete hippies. We have two kids, ages 2 & 4 and are fortunate enough to have a couple of grandma's to take the kids on occasion so we can go get wet!
I look forward to getting to know many of you and learning much more about diving in and about Texas.

Welcome to CHUM, I know you're moving the day of the next meeting 9/20 but if anything changes come check out the meeting. Also, a few weeks after that is Trashfest on Saturday 10/6. Not so new to Chum
Well, finally with the help of Sushi Boy I'm able to post, reply and interact. I have been reading the threads since May when I first registered, but have never been able to post. So, at this point I’m very familiar with the great and lively discussions that take place and it was killing me not to be able to reply and post messages.
I'm new to diving, but it has hit me like a storm. I got certified in May in the same class that squid (you might eventually remember me) did in a LDS and I've logged 26 dives from oil rigs to Cozumel. I never knew what I was missing down below, but the ironic part is that I was born and raised in Puerto Rico (don't hold that against me) and never tried it even though I saw everyone with their SCUBA flags marking their dive sites. I’m scheduling my AOW next month to keep developing my skills.

Well hello all. Some of you already know who I am (and have met me for that matter!) but for those that don't I am drcheap's new "flame." I have 3 beautiful "kids" 2 of which are my avatar, the other is a purebred Rottweiler named Bacardi. ( I knew I would fit in with this crowd) I actually live in New Jersey, but not for much longer.
I have only been on 1 dive haha and it was with doc in 5 feet of water in a swimming pool!! I have been snorkeling twice in Bermuda in the shipwrecks however, and that is when I decided I NEEDED to try scuba at some point. The surface just wasn't enough... so here I am! I plan on going through certification the first chance I get after moving, but until then I am here to lurk and learn from all of you

I Have looked around here, thought I had signed up, but did it again any way.
Meet Some of the Chum Members on the Spree Trip this past weekend, my first trip to the Flower Gardens,, it was great. I know some from other boards and trips. I have been diving around 3 yrs. Only have 87 dives, I have dove, Cozumel, several times, area lakes, uck,, mud holes , , Saba -St. Kitts Live aboard, Fiji., Dry Trotugas, Looking to get back in the water more,,,
