Hello!

Hello! I'm new to the Houston area (The Woodlands) and have been diving about 15 yrs. Once upon a time I was a PADI OW instructor, but that didn't last long at all before life took me in a direction that didn't allow me time to teach. Now I'm happy to be 'just a diver'. Hope to meet and dive with some of you in the future!

Welcome to the club....There is always some diving or something going on around here. In fact if your bored head to 288 lake around noon, you'll find a few CHUMmers there or maybe a rig trip on Sunday. If you can, swing by the meeting next Thursday at the Stags Head Pub...starts around 7ish, but people get there earlier or later.

I'm bumping this up because our meeting is tomorrow night and it's a great time for new members and/or guests to meet and mingle. They serve liquor at Stag's Head, ya know.... :p

I'm Jared... I've lived in Houston for about 13 years now, and I am currently Deployed with the Army as a Military Police Officer to Djibouti Africa. I started Diving shortly after I arrived here, and I am hooked. I blew straight through Open water, and Advanced, and dive just about every weekend here. I think i have been really spoiled with the diving here because this weekend I got to dive the fault line between the African and Asian Continental plates. It was a fantastic dive a 125 feet and going through cavernous swim throughs. The wildlife here is incredible as it runs from Whale sharks, dolphins, sea turtles, rays, lion fish, octopus and just about anything else you can imagine. I want to keep diving when I get back to Texas, and I know a group like this can help me do it. See ya around the fish bowl

Welcome aboard! You may have set a record for the fastest person to ever register & then post pics. I'm betting there'll be quite a few CHUMmers jealous of your "On the Left Asia on the Right Africa" photo

Hey everyone! I'm Chris and just moved back to the Houston area after living in Austin for the past 4 years. I'm pretty new to diving, got hooked on some Caribbean resort dives in the past few years and finally got my actual Open Water Cert early this year. Haven't had nearly as many opportunities to dive as I would like due to lack of diving buddies but it seems I finally stumbled upon the right group and am certainly willing to go diving as much as possible. I'm a paramedic in the north Harris county area so I constantly have random days off and would love to go diving anytime during the week or weekend, doesn't matter to me. It was fun meeting everyone at last night's meeting, was easy to feel very welcomed and seemed like you all know how to have fun! Can't go wrong with anything involving beer or diving!

Hey there Chris, I saw you sitting there and several times was gonna introduce myself and got tied up talking with friends. The "circle of CHUM" can be daunting to a newcomer but it's certainly not a closed circle so I'm looking forward to seeing you at the next meeting. Or maybe Trashfest?

Hi!

Name's Mark. I'm new to diving and have a whopping 5 dives under my belt. I'm in the Woodlands and am interested in meeting folks and improving my diving skills so when I take those trips to the blue waters of the Caribbean it at least looks like I know what I'm doing. I've got mask, fins, boots, a snorkel, and my basic OW certification. I also don't mind the occasional drink, which I hear will help me fit in here :)

Very interested in these rig diving trips you guys do, as well as finding dive buddies and hitting up the Blue Lagoon or other good spots in the area.

Hey SparkE79,

Welcome to CHUM!!! Come out to see us at the monthly meeting or social event. You found the club that loves to dive (and drink - once in awhile).

Aaarg...I got a guest membership at Trashfest, an event I wouldn't miss! I am a real-life marine biologist at Texas A&M University (the main campus at College Station), a specialist on crabs, shrimps and lobsters. I am one of those "experts" who identify critters for on-line underwater photography groups as well as the "Reef Creatures" books. No, I don't mind if you send me photos. I am a divemaster, certified in 1967 as a teenager and diving ever since. I have over 1200 hours under water. I've been diving in the Gulf of Mexico, of course, also the springs of Florida, the Keys, the Bahamas south to Bonaire, the shipwrecks of North Carolina, British Columbia, California, the Pacific side of Baja, the Gulf of California south to the Galapagos, Hawaii, Fiji, Australia and New Guinea. I hold a scientific diving certification that strongly encourages me to keep my gear and diving ability in good condition by diving at least every 2 months. I often am looking for diving buddies and don't mind diving with "newbies" or folks who need to test some gear. I'm afraid that I must remain a "corresponding "member because I work full time and don't get the chance to go down to Houston all that often.
