Thank you for this information. I'll be there. To copy Heidi Ho, is there anything we can do to support his family or bring to the celebration?

I'm planning to attend.
Not sure what the format is but I'll wear black tie.
Happy to carpool if anyone wants a ride (we did this before for a lunch one afternoon).

We can take a few people, too. You're wearing a black tie with your CHUM shirt?

Maybe we can wear our black CHUM shirts? IF the family does not specify perhaps we should just represent the SCUBA part of his life. Formalities are not clear and I don't anticipate Peter would have preferred a "black tie affair"

Live and let live, I say. Pretty sure Peter would have agreed. Sure wish I could be there to celebrate his life. I feel fortunate to have been a small part of it. Please take lots of pictures.

Just a reminder that Peter's memorial is on Saturday. I asked Laura about the attire, and she said it's casual. I'll probably wear a dress, but not a dressy dress.

What a wonderful day. About a dozen CHUMmers showed up for what truly was a celebration of life. There were a couple dozen of Peter's family members there - he had 11 siblings I think - and they seemed like wonderful people. Several told us how much Peter loved CHUM and they were so happy to see us.

There were lots of pictures looping on the TV - at least half were dive pics or dive trip pics - and we would watch them and remember when and where it was taken. It was also nice seeing pictures of Peter from just a few years old to his teens and as a young man. His sister Vivian gathered us in the living room and spoke a bit about Peter's life then a few people added their own memories.

Then we went outside into the field where people would get a handful of his ashes and spread them in the field with the help of a steady breeze. The divers took some ashes down to the pond to spread them in the water.

Then it was time to feast and they had some delicious brisket, grilled chicken, sausage, yummy potato salad, pastas, and more. Coolers of beer, wine, soda, and water were well stocked. Then fresh baked cookies and ice cream. I think this day was exactly as Peter would have planned it himself.

The celebration was well attended and included Peter’s extended family, his neighbors and friends who conduct the local preventive burn, and a good number of Chummers.

It was nice to meet everyone there and swap stories of Peter, and his life and travels. It was very clear that he spoke of his friends at CHUM and diving in Texas and elsewhere. His family knew he was frustrated at not being able to go back to Egypt.

The rain held off thankfully, and it was a lovely ceremony of scattering Peter’s ashes on his ranch.

I took several photos and his sister Vivian was happy that I would share them. I’ll plan to post them on FB also. I may get copies of the other photos that were looping on the lounge screen.
