What a wonderful day. About a dozen CHUMmers showed up for what truly was a celebration of life. There were a couple dozen of Peter's family members there - he had 11 siblings I think - and they seemed like wonderful people. Several told us how much Peter loved CHUM and they were so happy to see us.
There were lots of pictures looping on the TV - at least half were dive pics or dive trip pics - and we would watch them and remember when and where it was taken. It was also nice seeing pictures of Peter from just a few years old to his teens and as a young man. His sister Vivian gathered us in the living room and spoke a bit about Peter's life then a few people added their own memories.
Then we went outside into the field where people would get a handful of his ashes and spread them in the field with the help of a steady breeze. The divers took some ashes down to the pond to spread them in the water.
Then it was time to feast and they had some delicious brisket, grilled chicken, sausage, yummy potato salad, pastas, and more. Coolers of beer, wine, soda, and water were well stocked. Then fresh baked cookies and ice cream. I think this day was exactly as Peter would have planned it himself.
