Following from Peter’s death in late 2023, several Chummers attended his Celebration of Life held in March 2024.

Peter’s sister Vivian advised that his dive gear would be donated to CHUM once the estate had assessed the details. I arranged to collect the gear later that year and, as Treasurer at the time, discussed with the Board to find a good home for it. I catalogued the equipment and cleared out some of the less useful and worn items. However, it effectively included two sets of most items (tanks, fins, BCDs, regs, lights) and multiple wetsuits, travel-cases and weights. While a few opportunities were pursued, last year was increasingly busy with work & travel and the kit was parked.

In March, our guest speaker was Howard Oestry from DIveheart.org which is a charity that helps teach adaptive scuba to people with disabilities.

He gave a great presentation discussing training people with various challenges as well as how we can help get involved. We chatted after the meeting and I can now advise that Peter’s dive gear is with Diveheart. While some of the gear should be useful, and some less so, I am happy to have closed-out some earlier responsibilities. It is comforting to me that Peter’s dive gear has found a good home with a well-qualified dive charity doing productive work in the community.

I hope Peter and his family would approve. :)
