I dove Devil's Den many years ago, and it was pretty awesome! Although that entrance to get down into the cavern was a pain in the ass, as I recall. Also, welcome to CHUM!

Nothing has changed then, also it was packed with students. I did the one and done thing

Hi Mark! Please come to our next monthly meeting so we can welcome you in person! October 18, 7:30 PM at Jake's Sports bar, 2944 Chimney Rock, 77056.
I'd like to but that's a little to far for me to go out drinking and then run the gauntlet to get back home. I'm trying to stay out of the DUI club! If one of your meetings is ever closer to me I'll go for sure. I appreciate the invite though!

For Sure! The meetings are always at the same location, but you can always join us for a Cheesesteak and a Soda.

Hmm... my choices are a possible DUI or saying goodbye to my near perfect waistline... that's a tough call to make! I'm thinking I'll do what I can to make it to one of the outings and use that opportunity to meet everyone. I'll keep an eye out for a time when your scheduled to be at Windy Point and meet you all there. I do appreciate the invite

Hopefully the visibility will be good. My last rescue class was last Saturday and it was around 6 feet or so on lagoon 1. I'm waiting for the cold water to go back out there.

I've been there plenty of times in winter with 5' and plenty of times in summer with 20'.

I may be trying to learn something about playing more often, playing well with other or playing at a new destination. So, I am hoping I did come to the right place. One can never stop expanding their knowledge base and I love sorting through various opinions. Hell, I have an opinion too and every once in a while some weird person will agree with it.

Thanks for the invite; but, I can't make Blue Lagoon this weekend. All my gear is at my NSLDS getting serviced.

Greetings Chummers,

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and survived black Friday. As I settle down myself, I figured it's time to post an introduction to the group.

My name is Jason, I live in Tomball at the edge of The Woodlands. It looks like there is a mix of people from all over the area on here.

I blame a cross country road trip as a kid with 2 magazines and one article on diving as why I am here today. Pretty sure I read that article a couple dozen times, I remember it talking about moray eels looking worse than you think unless provoked. Sadly lack of funds and interest from any one else to support the hobby let the interest move to the back burner.

Fast forward years later, took a discover class to see if diving would be for me. My suspicions were confirmed, I wanted to go deeper. Again, other hobbies and those around me steered me away. A wedding, kids, and finishing college kept the interest on hold a little longer.

This last Fourth of July my youngest kicked the diaper habit. The next day we booked a cruise for 2019 knowing we can swim in the pools again. Two days after that I signed up for a dive excursion. I knew between then and the trip I can start getting some experience locally. I literally had to dive in with a deadline only months away to learn and equip myself for this opportunity.

That's where I am today. I have finished my classroom and local dives and will be at Spring Lake in a couple weeks to make it official. The time for reading and studying is coming to an end and now it is time to have some fun. Don't get me wrong, the amount of information online is enormous. Whenever I have a few moments I am looking for articles or experiences of others as I begin my journey.

Possibly the biggest part of the dive community I am learning to respect is the open flow of information. Reading various sources of personal accounts and experience from peers to experts helps build the knowledge base. There are discussions from root cause analysis to visibility and temp checks.

Here I am trying to keep the CCD in check as I equip myself, watching for deals and the right pieces of equipment that will serve me now and into the future.

I am looking forward to making a trip down to the monthly meeting to meet in person in the new year. The DAM club looks like a great challenge to start honing my skills and build experience.

Welcome, JP! Thanks for sharing your story. The great thing about your journey is that the water was and is always there, ready for you to blow bubbles whenever and wherever you can. I think it's cool that your time is finally here!

How wonderful to do your checkout dives at Spring Lake. That is a favorite watering hole for a lot of us. If you and your wife find a babysitter, try and make it to the annual Holiday Party. It would be an AWESOME first event to meet people - it was my first event to meet everyone back over a decade ago.

You're starting off on the right foot. Finding this group of rag tag divers is a great start. Any questions that you have, there will always be someone here ready to lend information and a helping hand. Not all of us have all the answers, but we sure like to share a drink and talk about diving. :)

Are you going to be in the December 8th class? I'm enrolled in that one as well.
