One of the earliest trips CHUM ever did as a club was a Comal River camping trip back in 2005, and it was a BLAST. This will be the 11th time I have "JULIE'D" this annual tradition. To get an idea of what to expect, our most recent CHUM Claims the Comal trip reports are here: 2018 and 2016. (I apparently didn't create a 2017 Trip Report, and never posted any pictures! Sorry, CHUM!) In 2015 , we had to evacuate the campground because of rising river levels; that special trip report is here: 2015. A further archive of our fun memories from the past annual trip reports can be found here (2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, and 2005!!!)

Soooo........Who wants to join us on April 5th, 6th, and 7th? It should be pretty awesome weather for camping! Since we're going earlier this year, it will be PERFECT weather for a campfire!
For those who may not know, the Comal River is in New Braunfels and is a comfy 72 degrees year round. It's not deep, but does have a light current for some easy drift diving and tube chutes for the adventurous types. Plan on driving up Friday night, camping, waking up Saturday morning for an A.M. dive. After the dive, we can return to camp, dry out a bit, and then rent some tubes for a float down the river; if we decide not to float, we usually start the BBQ a little earlier and spend the rest of day in the Circle'O'CHUM relaxing. Typically, at night we hang out around the campsite, but you can also head into New Braunfels or nearby Gruene to enjoy the nightlife. Sunday repeat the diving & tubing as desired, or we can all go have breakfast together and get an earlier start back to Houston. Come for all, or just part of the weekend. This is a great weekend trip for the whole family because it is close to Houston, and in my opinion, it's the best and most fun events all year long for our non-divers!
Camping will again be at Landa RV Park. **CHUM does not have a block of campsites reserved. You must call Landa and choose any available site. If you mention CHUM, they will tell you the open campsites closest to us. As of now, every campsite along the river is open. Claim yours soon!** To reserve your site, call the park directly at 830-625-1211 and pay the deposit (one night) for your campsite. Since we are going before Easter, we get to pay the off-season rate of $30 a night. They raised the prices in June of last year, but at least we aren't paying regular season rates. This price includes your campsite only. There will be an additional cost to rent tubes and ride the shuttle after tubing and diving, but you can pay those on site Saturday morning.
Per the e-mail confirmation, each site includes:
2 People
1 vehicle
1 RV/tent/pop-up camper
Additional people: $2 (limit 8 per site)
Additional vehicle: $10 (limit 2 per site)
Additional tent: $10 (limit 2 per site)
All additional charges are on a nightly basis.
A map of the campsites is here. Even if you select a site that is not along the river, or decide to stay in an RV or camper spot up the hill, you can always hang out with us, and then walk to your site when you're ready to hit the hay. Please let me know what site number you book, so that I can keep a current list below.
This trip is open to everyone - Tiger Sharks, Nurse Sharks, etc., and even if you don't want to dive, come anyway and hang out with us.
