Hey, my name is Cory. I just found you guys and am looking to expand my scuba diving hobby. I got certified last year, went to Cozumel, and had a blast. Looking for people and trips, looks like I may have found the right place.

I won't be around this weekend, but I definately look foreward to future events.

Well, let's see, a little about me. I grew up here in Houston but moved away a several years ago but now I'm back again. I lived in L.A. for 12 years so that's how I came up with my handle. Although new to this board, I'm not so new to diving. I first received my OW certification in 1987. I didn't do a whole lot of diving back then, some local diving and the only 'resort' dive was a day trip to Akumal when I was on vacation in Cancun. And a couple Bahama trips in between. I got bit big time by the diving bug about a year and a half ago when I was working in Kansas City. Finally got my AOW and also Rescue while I was there. Was able to go to Bonaire for a week. Then shortly there after spent a couple weeks in Australia. One week was spent diving Surfers Paradise (close to Brisbane) and the other week on a liveaboard diving the Great Barrier Reef out of Cairns. Although I live here in Houston, I primarily work out of state. I hope to finally make the Flower Gardens this year and also do some rig/platform diving and possibly a resort trip or two. As far as goals go, I think I would like to get my Wreck diving and Nitrox certs this year. I asked the DSO in KC what I need to do to get my Master cert, he said basically "pay the fee" so I'll probably work on that cert too. The only other dive of note would be the shark feeding dive I did in Nassau in '03. That was cool. too.

I am planning on attending the dive show this afternoon and then probably head over to the pub, so I look forward to meeting some of yall.

Don't worry, we'll forgive you... eventually. We're glad you found us. We have a very good mix of new and experienced divers and lots of dive outing opportunities.

I'd not worry much about Master Scuba. Take specialties because they interest you and benefit you, not to fulfill the magic number of 5. If you happen to get enough for MSD and want to pay the fee to get the card (nothing wrong with feeling a little proud of your accomplishments), go for it. You'll definitely want nitrox for diving Flower Gardens, oil rigs, and most of the artificial ship reefs in our part of the world. Wreck training will do you well too though the Wreck specialty is just an eye opener, not to be confused with advanced wreck training.

Look forward to seeing you tonite.

Howdy and Gig 'Em.

While we have a fair number participating in the MS150, it's been done without real coordination as a CHUM "team". (Although I'm sure the BOD would support any efforts to organize the herd of cats...)

You should consider bringing your cadets to the Dragon Boat races and test their mettle against a rowdy group of divers (as well as several more respectable teams :D).

Hello folks: New to the club but not to diving. Been jumping out of boats, planes and of cliff walls for a few yrs. Nothing extreem. I am more into seeing how it can be done safely. Work has kept me very busy the last few yrs so I have been even more low key (I bellieve the term is dehydrated). Looking to getting my head wet again as soon as possible so I belive this is the place to get informed where to do that. Thanks Smash and Peacholica for getting me in the door!

Welcome. It is clear that you have what it takes to become a member of the club, i.e. easily lead astray by cute girls...

Dutch: As to your quote, "I was asked, "How deep do you dive?" the other day. I answered, "Deep enough to get wet." ". I was asked that question about skydiving once. I repied "When skydiving, I refuse to go below ground level!"

cheers!

Since Mammoth Lake will not be open, Wet's next event will be the Dragonbucks tournament. Then I may take her to Media Luna mid-March unless somebody has a better offer for her. She's pretty much a dive ho and goes with whoever gives the best deal.

Hello! I'm new to the forum and new to diving... ok so haven't dove yet... but Aqua Burro (my boyfriend) is dead set on getting me in the water. So... that means I have little to no knowledge of what i'm getting myself into and that ya'll are going to have a lot of questions to answer for me! :)
